Synopsis:
An unusual, coming of age story. Shane, a teen, in 1970's Oklahoma, is outed by a small town political machine, the very powers-that-be who want to keep him in the closet. A story told by 18 year old Shane, just as he remembered it.
America was in a different place in the 70's. Stonewall riots had made the world aware that Gays & Lesbians demanded rights. It was a time before there were anti-bullying or discrimination policies or laws to protect gays and gay students. The Internet didn’t exist. Gay Advocacy groups hadn’t formed yet. Intolerance and bigotry were the norm. This is a story based on the author’s nightmare he’s harbored since a teen and now, it’s time to expose the story. A story of threats and cover-ups by a corrupt school board administration who targets Shane (because he doesn't fit the "norm").
Shane becomes the first openly gay teen in the high school history, the very thing the school administration did not want to happen. Eventually Shane realizes his future rides on his standing up for himself and to fight back. This sets into motion a series of events that could cost him more than just his desire to graduate. Controversial and disturbing, the story depicts 1970's through the eyes of a confused teen who only wants to graduate from high school and to get the hell out of that godforsaken town.
(A fictional tale based on the author's own high school years)
